A tower is a real purchase. Not a bag of seeds you can shrug off if it doesn't work out. And the questions that actually decide whether you'll love it or resent it are the ones the product page doesn't answer.

Six things to settle before you spend the money
Written for someone who has never grown anything and doesn't want a lecture on hydroponics before getting an answer.
Match the model to your space
Start from the space you actually have — the balcony, the corner of the kitchen, the patch of yard that gets sun — and work backwards to the tower that fits it. Most buyer's remorse starts here.
The real first-year cost
The tower is the number on the website. Seeds, nutrients, a pH kit, lights if you're indoors, and the extras you'll want by month three are the number nobody quotes you. You should see both before you decide.
Indoors or outdoors
This one decision drives your lighting, your pest problems, your growing season and half your ongoing cost. Get it right first and everything downstream gets easier.
What it grows brilliantly, and what it won't
Some crops are almost unfair on a tower. Others will frustrate you no matter how well you run it. Knowing which is which before you buy is the difference between a tower you love and a tower you cover up.
The first four weeks
Where most abandoned towers get abandoned. What to plant first, what to check and how often, and the two mistakes that account for nearly every dead first grow.
When not to buy one
There are situations where I'll tell you to skip it, and cheaper ways to find out whether you even like growing food. You should hear that from me before you spend anything.

Six of mine live outside all year. The other two run indoors under grow lights, for when I want to control every variable and stop negotiating with the weather. Both setups give me amazing harvests, and they get there differently.
So when the guide walks you through indoors versus outdoors, it isn't theory. I run both, side by side, and I can tell you what each one asks of you and what it hands back.

I'm Chad. I grow on these every day.
I've been growing hydroponically since 2014 — Kratky jars, deep water culture, tents, and the eight towers above. I teach it now, and the questions in this guide are the ones people send me before they buy, over and over.
I'm not going to talk you into anything. A tower is a great fit for some people and a waste of money for others, and I'd rather you find that out from a free guide than from an expensive box in your garage.
